Simple FET(Field Effect Transistor) Tester
2 pcs. LED color red
1 pc. LED color green
1 pc. DPDT switch
1 potentiometer 10k ohms
2 pcs. resistor 470 ohms 1/4 watt
1 pc. resistor 470k ohms 1/4 watt
8 pcs.aligator clips
1 pc. printed circuit board
1 small bottle of ferric chloride( if you are the one who will design it. You put a tape or pentel pen to your design or circuit so that it will not fade when dip it to ferric chloride)
and some wires.
The 3 aligator clips are used and assigned to clip the GATE of fet, the other one is for the DRAIN, and the last one for the SOURCE for N-channel. And on the otherside for P-channel the remaining 3 aligator clip are assigned to gate, drain and source. If the FET you test n-channel switch to n-channel or likewise you switch to p-channel. If the fet is good only the green LED lit. If the fet is shorted one of the red Led will lit. To confirm the fet is good even if you increase the value of potentiometer or variable resistor to maximum the red LED should not lit or otherwise the fet is bad or has defect. The two remaining aligator clip is to be clip to 9 volts battery or may buy a clip that is suitable for this battery. I hope it will helps.
